Dylan Harper’s journey to the NBA Finals was marked by celebration, but one of the most memorable moments came after the game in an emotional exchange with his mother.
After helping the San Antonio Spurs defeat the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals, Harper was seen embracing his Filipino mother, Maria Harper, as the reality of the achievement began to sink in.
Amid the excitement surrounding the Spurs’ return to the NBA Finals, Maria reflected on the challenges her son had overcome to reach basketball’s biggest stage.
Maria Harper, the daughter of Manuel and Lillia Pizarro, immigrated to the United States from the Philippines at the age of 7. She was raised in Paterson, New Jersey.
In an interview with Amazn HQ, Maria shared the Filipino values she hopes to pass on to her sons – lessons rooted in loyalty, hard work and kindness.
“As I watched my family, specifically my parents, always giving and being so generous to those around them, I try to emulate that in my life and pass it down to (Dylan and Ron Jr.),” she said.
